Come to Cary’s Creative Getaway!
Join Cary Tennis Jan. 17 through 20, 2014, for 4 days of creative writing workshops at Marconi Conference Center on beautiful Tomales Bay, just 90 minutes north of San Francisco on the northern California Coast.
The writer needs solitude and the writer needs community. Cary’s writing retreats offer both. Daily Amherst Writers and Artists-style workshops unlock imaginative forces and stimulate creative thinking. Cary also meets with writers one-on-one to discuss individual aspirations and creative goals. We challenge taboos, uncover powerful memories and overcome longstanding creative blocks. Use free time to wander, write, eat, sleep, laugh, talk and enjoy yourself. The food is superb and the setting sublime. Below is an outline of what we do at the getaway:
At 3pm the first day we meet at McCargo hall where we get to know each other over beverages and a tasty plate of local cheeses and hors d’oeuvres. Afterward, we gather for a four-course dinner and then we end the day with a short writing session.
Saturday starts off with a 3-hour workshop session in the morning and the afternoon is set aside for 20-minute private conferences in which Cary meets with writers one-on-one to discuss individual aspirations and creative goals. Sunday’s schedule consists of two 3-hour workshops sessions, one before and one after lunch. On Monday there is one final workshop session before we have our final lunch together and say our fond farewells.
The food at Marconi is amazing. The breakfast offerings are generous and diverse and include everything from fresh fruit, to oatmeal, to scambled eggs, to gingerbread pancakes. Dinners are inventive and expertly prepared. The desserts are sublime. (I still dream of that chocolate souffle cake!) Special dietary needs are alway accommodated.
Cary leads his workshops using the Amherst Writers and Artists method which is extremely effective at helping challenge taboos, uncover powerful memories and overcome longstanding creative blocks. Use free time to wander, write, eat, sleep, laugh, talk and enjoy yourself.
Nearby are fine organic restaurants, an exquisite spa and the astoundingly beautiful Point Reyes National Seashore. If you need time to yourself, feel free to claim your solitude. If you crave company, in the evenings after dinner we gather to read aloud and entertain each other with music and stories.
