I

Come to Castiglion Fiorentino May 12-22, 2022 for TEN! days of writing, thinking, eating, drinking, walking, talking, relaxing, exploring!

I’ll be there at beautiful Residence Le Santucce offering daily Amherst Writers and Artists workshops in this charming and ancient Tuscan hill town.

Why Italy? Why Le Santucce?

My wife, Norma, and I looked long and hard before settling on Residence Le Santucce as an ideal place for a writers workshop and retreat. The residence is a beautifully renovated convent whose hosts are kind, fascinating and attentive. Castiglion Fiorentino is a walled medieval town lying in a lush farming valley halfway between Rome and Florence so you can tour those marvelous cities before and after the workshops. The town boasts many excellent and inexpensive restaurants, cafes and shops just steps away, as well as an art museum, a library, a rock and roll club(!) [unfortunately, The Velvet Underground Pub is currently closed], a charming Italian theater, and an avant-garde performance space. We chose it not only for its beauty and amenities but because the local people treated us with such warmth, dignity and openness that we felt at home here. Eventually we moved here. This is now our home.

“Cary Tennis has it all,” says Amherst Writers and Artists founder Pat Schneider. “He’s funny, he’s kind, he’s smart he’s brave, and he’s very, very wise.”

I’ve been leading Amherst Writers and Artists workshops and retreats in California and around the world since 2007, and I look forward to sharing with you its powerful benefits. I use the method as spelled out in Pat Schneider’s book Writing Alone and With Others, but of course I bring to it my particular learning and style. I trust that whether you are acquainted with the method or are doing it for the first time, you will find something useful and lasting in the experience.
